TikTok Famous Amsterdam Eats: Are Fabel Friet & Chun Worth the Hype?

Amsterdam is a dream for most first first-time solo travelers—quaint canals, storybook row houses, the scent of stroopwafels in the air. But lately, it's also gone viral for something else: food. Specifically, a new wave of TikTok famous Amsterdam eats that are taking over your For You Page.

Tik Tok Famous Amsterdam Food

If you’re planning your first visit and have limited time (and stomach space), you're probably wondering: Are these viral food spots actually worth it? With HUGE lines to consider, it begs the question of if these spots are worth adding to your itinerary. Being to Amsterdam four times now in the last two years, I have tasted both of these hyped TikTok eateries (multiple times) so you don’t have to wonder!

Today, we’re diving into Tik Tok celebrities Fabel Friet and Chun Café—two wildly popular spots that have amassed millions of views, long lines, and loyal fans. Here's the breakdown of what to expect, what to order, and whether these Dutch darlings live up to their online fame.

1. Fabel Friet: Amsterdams Best Fries with Fairy Tale Status

Welcome to fry heaven. Fabel Friet isn’t your average fry shop—this place treats potatoes like royalty. With a triple-frying method and locally grown spuds, they serve up some of the crispiest, fluffiest fries you’ll ever taste. The fries come stacked, dripping in sauces, and topped with everything you would like from parmesan or truffle to crispy onions. It’s no wonder TikTok is obsessed.

📍 Location: Runstraat 1, 1016 GJ Amsterdam

🕒 Opening Hours: Daily from 12 PM – 9 PM (note that hours may vary by season)

The TikTok Buzz on Fabel Friet Amsterdam:

You’ve seen it—the crisp golden fries, stacked in paper, smothered in sauces so photogenic they deserve their own Instagram account. Fabel Friet has become the spot for artisanal Dutch fries, elevating a humble snack into a viral phenomenon. Fabel Friet is something different, I promise. But is it worth waiting in a line that sometimes snakes down the street?

In short: Yes—if you time it right!

What to Know About the Line:

Yes, there’s usually always a line. But it moves VERY fast, so don't let it intimidate you. I went at 3 PM on a weekday and skipped the line but came back at 7 PM and waited about 15 minutes total. If you go right when they open (12 PM), you might be first in line. Weekends? Expect 30-40+ minutes if not more in peak tourist seasons.

My Must-Try Orders:

Fabel Friet is not your average “frietkot” (Dutch fry stand). They triple-cook their potatoes, using Dutch-grown varieties for extra fluff inside and perfect crunch outside. Every batch is made fresh to order. I reccomend one of the following:

  • Fabel Friet Special – The OG order that made the place famous. Comes with Fabel’s signature sauce, homemade curry ketchup, and chopped onions.

  • Truffle Parmesan Fries w/ Mayo (My fav) – Rich, earthy, and wildly indulgent.

Pro tip: Go ahead and get two orders if you’re sharing—or if you're just hungry after a morning of walking the canals. These are hard to divide between friends as they are a small portion already and so extremely delicious you won't want to share.

Don’t Skip the Fried Cheese: A Dutch Classic Snack

Yes, Fabel Friet is famous for their fries—but if you walk away without trying the fried cheese, you’ve made a rookie mistake. This isn’t just any cheese stick. Fabel Friet’s version is a golden-fried rectangle of melted Dutch cheese, crispy on the outside and luxuriously gooey on the inside. Think: mozzarella stick meets gourmet snack bar, only better—and with that distinctively rich, nutty flavor you can only get from local Dutch dairy.

The coating is perfectly crisp, never greasy, and holds its shape until you take that glorious first bite. It’s served hot and fresh, usually in sets of two or three, and it's a perfect add-on to your fries if you’re really leaning into the indulgence (and trust me—you should).

Pro tip: Dip it in Fabel Friet's signature Samurai sauce or the classic mayo for a next-level experience. It’s a match made in snack heaven.

Even if you're just stopping by for a quick bite, the fried cheese is one of those small-but-mighty menu items that will make your taste buds remember Amsterdam long after you’ve flown home.

2. Chun Café: TikTok’s Favorite Korean-Inspired Brunch

📍 Location: Berenstraat 8, 1016 GH Amsterdam

🕒 Opening Hours: Wednesday–Sunday, 10:30 AM – 5:30 PM

The TikTok Buzz on Chun Amsterdam:

Chun Café is TikTok’s answer to “What if Korean café culture met European charm?” With pastel interiors, floral drinks, and those famous egg toast sandwiches, it’s racked up millions of likes and become the brunch spot for foodies, influencers, and curious travelers alike. I have searched the world to find something close to this delicacy and I have yet to come close.

What Makes Chun Special:

The café blends cozy Korean aesthetics with minimalist Dutch design. You’ll find hanging dried flowers, sleek marble counters, and a vibe that’s both photogenic and welcoming. But the real draw is the egg toast sandwich—a fluffy brioche bun overflowing with creamy soft boiled eggs, sauces, and toppings of your choice.

Chun is more than just a food stop—it’s an experience. The type of place that feels like a little treat to yourself, whether you’re journaling over tea or just soaking in the calm before heading back out into the city.

My Must-Try Orders:

  • Egg Toast Rib Eye Bulgogi – Beef marinated in sweet soy, tucked between buttery bread and layers of eggs.

  • Strawberry Matcha Latte – TikTok favorite for a reason. It’s gorgeous and tastes like spring in a glass.

What to Know About the Line:

This is one of those “get there early or prepare to wait” kind of places. I arrived at 10:20 AM and was 5th in line before the doors even opened. By 10:45, there were 30+ people behind me. I eat here every time I am in Amsterdam and the longest I have waited is 1 hour and 20 minutes. I have also skipped this during my time in the city when the line appeared to be a 3 hour wait. Do not be afriad to ask the line attendent how long they think you might be there, they see the line every day and can give you an honest answer.

The café is small, with limited indoor seating (and no reservations), so aim to arrive right before opening on a weekday. They also offer takeaway, but if you’re after the full TikTok moment—cute table, latte art, natural light—you’ll want to dine in.

Final Verdict: Are These TikTok Famous Amsterdam Eats Worth the Hype?

Fabel Friet: Yes, 100%. Affordable, delicious, and located in one of the most charming parts of the city. Even if you’re short on time, this is a quick (and deeply satisfying) snack that lives up to the hype.

Chun: Yes—but with a caveat. It’s worth it if you can go early to avoid long waits and get a seat. The food is indulgent, unique, and photogenic, but the café is small and popular. For a solo traveler or small group, it’s perfect. Large groups? Not ideal. For me personally, waiting for food for almost 2 hours in my favorite city in the world is time wasted.

Travel Tips for First-Timers Eating in Amsterdam:

✅ Go on a weekday for shorter lines.

✅ Take an umbrella and rain gear for the line, it rains a lot here.

✅ Bring a backup battery for your phone—you’ll want pics!

✅ Don’t be afraid to order what you saw on TikTok, they are the top sellers for a reason.

✅ Pair each spot with nearby activities. These neighborhoods are beautiful and walkable.

Final Thoughts on these Tik Tok Famous Amsterdam Eats

Amsterdam’s food scene is having a major moment on TikTok, and Fabel Friet and Chun Café are leading the charge with their crave-worthy visuals, creative menus, and lines that speak for themselves. In a city already known for stroopwafels and cheese shops, these two eateries are putting modern, global flavors on the map—and racking up millions of views in the process.

While social media can often overhype places, these spots back it up with substance beyond the aesthetic. Whether it’s the perfectly golden fries loaded with creamy sauces at Fabel Friet or the fluffy, indulgent egg sandwiches at Chun, both offer something that feels not just trendy, but memorable. They're the kind of meals you’ll think about long after your trip ends, and the kind of photos you’ll be excited to post—not just because they’re beautiful, but because they tell the story of a moment worth savoring.

Add them to your itinerary, go with an open mind (and an empty stomach), and you might just leave feeling like you’ve discovered the beating heart of Amsterdam—one delicious bite at a time.
